There s little doubt that James Edgar and his wife, Charity, were devoted to each other.
As they grew older, the Harrison County couple would often express a desire to each other that they should die on the same day.
It was a wish that came true.
James Edgar was born Feb. 22, 1794, in Washington County, Pa, the son of James Edgar, Sr., a native of Ireland. The father later moved to Wellsburg, W.Va., where he operated a hotel. James ran a ferry across the Ohio River there.
The family eventually moved to Harrison County, where James met Charity Bartow.
Charity was born July 24, 1798, in Washington County, N.Y., the daughter of Zenas and Elizabeth (Carpenter) Bartow. Zenas Bartow was a veteran of the Revolutionary War who brought his family to Conotton in Harrison County in 1809.

FREEPORT The accumulation of snow from several winter storms took its toll on a Freeport business sending part of its roof crashing to the ground.
The building that houses Freeport Press/Pretzel City Paper at 1031 W. Empire St. was a heap of boards and other materials Sunday as the weight of snow that had accumulated on the roof was too much for the structure to hold and the roof caved in at some point overnight. The latest winter storm brought more than 5 inches of wet and heavy snow and the building s roof fell under that weight.
