Hiniker, Albina Louise Born November 7, 1942 in E. Chicago, Indiana died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 31, 2022 at Carondelet Village in St. Paul, MN. Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Louise Osojnicki, her beloved husband Peter Hiniker who died February 19, 2020 after 44 years of marriage. She is survived by brother Matt Osojnicki (Susan) and nephew Matt Osojnicki (Lisa), their 3 sons and 3 grandchildren, niece Debi Miller(James) and her daughter; Peter's children, Juli (Gene) Burk, Peter, and Mary (Jeff) Luke; ten grandchildren, 3great grandchildren and her extensive circle of friends especially the Sisters of St. Joseph and Consociates and Agregees. Louise was proud of her Slovenian-Croatian roots and felt connected to the strong and loving women and men who were her ancestors. Louise loved beauty in all its expressions, in nature, in the art of music, painting and literature; she rejoiced in the creative process. She had a rich interior life fed by a thirst for the Divine Spirit of Love. She was fierce in her investigation of theology and spirituality. As a thoughtful friend and generous hostess, she could not be outdone. Even now, gift bags she prepared are waiting to be delivered, all containing chocolate. As a counselor she believed that we are here not only for ourselves but for the purpose of loving others into their most authentic selves, to exhaust our potential and help others to do the same. Louise was gifted with music by her parents at an early age. As she showed promise, they purchased an Imperial Accordion for $1200 in 1952. She played the Croatian and Slovenian traditional folk tunes her mother taught her into adulthood. "Singing with her mother was one of the most beautiful things in her life" as she recorded in a recent interview. Her early education was at Holy Trinity Croatian school and the sisters there suggested she continue at St. Joseph's Boarding School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania which she deemed one of the best decisions of her life. Her grades improved and she excelled in music and oratory, winning a first place in a national Oratory Competition. She made another good decision when she chose a small college which had the best to offer in theology, philosophy, art and music. Louise moved to Minnesota in 1969 to complete a master's Degree in teaching English as a Second Language. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and chose to go to Macedonia to teach English. She took the opportunity to meet her mother's relatives and learned that her Great Grandmother Agnes was respected in her village as a mid-wife and healer. She returned to Minnesota to study psychology and after 10 years of diligent self-study she successfully achieved her License as a Clinical Psychologist. No surprise that she was attracted by the Adlerian practitioner who was leading a workshop and offered to bring her a copy of "Children: the Challenge". She and Peter were married in 1976 and she gained three step-children . She continued her counseling career for 23 years at St. Catherine University. Her favorite part of counseling was the assertiveness training workshops she gave in the 70's and 80's. Louise was essentially a caregiver for family members and then for her husband which gave her a strong sense of identity; conversely she struggled to maintain that sense of purpose when she suddenly became the person needing care. But she cheerfully and valiantly continued to seek out ways to be connected, to keep learning and deepening her gratitude for all that is beautiful. So many circles of caring and giving mark her life and we are profoundly grateful for the music she made in our lives. A special thank you to Louise's devoted caregivers Julie, Donna, Marvette of Home Instead and Maria, Block RN of Our Lady of Peace Home Health. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 12 at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Presentation Chapel, 1884 Randolph Avenue, St.Paul. Inurnment at a later date.
