Inefficient programs or wasteful programs absolutely we should look at that in a deficit reduction program. but to target the fbi as punishment is absurd. they re in charge of leading the effort on counter terrorism efforts, counter intelligence, chinese and russian spies. they re easing the effort on white collar crime, human trafficking. to say we re going to cut an agency that performs such a vital function in the united states government is really irresponsible. we heard director wray say today that the fbi s created a unit to focus on threats to fbi agent and facilities. do crow think the pletical attacks are driving these threats and causing this step? i don t think there s any doubt that people who are unstable hear information largely incomplete and uninformed information that will drive people, again, who are not balanced to do crazy things. ....

Spending under president obama. this is not that below what president trump is spending. then it goes down in 14, 15, 16, 17, and then it starts to go back up. what happened there? after the tea party election in 2010 and the republicans took over, the republicans back in a time when republicans cared about deficits, remember back then? they were pushing the president to bring the deficit under control. they came up with a so-called sequester. the budget control. this was a bipartisan agreement and yes, defense spending went down a little bit and started to come back up. it s not just obama. it was his party that demanded a massive deficit reduction program and they don t put tax issues on the table. what s left to cut? there is discretionary spending which is not a big slice of the budget. it went down as we can see and it s gone back up. ....

In the oval office right now, leading on the sensitive issue of these forced budget cuts. one of the things i thought was very hopeful and interesting about what mitt romney said was his acknowledgement that the sequester is bad news. this is not our first step toward a rational deficit reduction program. it s bad news. and if we could at least al agree on that, we could get away from these cuts that are landing on the defense budget. $47 billion is going to come out the defense budget between now and the end of the fiscal year. even as the united states is winding down two wars. this is not the way to go. i m glad mitt romney is saying that. everybody agrees this is not the best way of cutting spends. across the board, meat clever spending. they would like to do it with a scalpel but we haven t come up w a deal. with all due respect to mr. romney, he ain t the solution. i m glad it s killing him. i m glad. because you know it s killing the middle class. at least he s suffering a ....

Earlier, the focus on deficit reduction is odd. unemployment is still in the 7.5 to 8% range. it s not going down particularly rapidly. and what i think we want right now is to focus all of our attention on lowering unemployment. ultimately full employment is the best deficit reduction program, it s the best way we have to reduce the amount of money the government spends. just people are putting in more tax revenue. less of a need for income support programs when there s full employment. as a whole, i find washington s obsession with reducing the deficit to be very, very odd, given the circumstances. let me challenge one thing. we re up against a break but i think i want to talk about this in the next this is an artificial crisis. there s other things we could be talking about. that component of this discussion we haven t heard much about. that s after this. it s water from the drinking fountain at the mall. great tasting water can come from any faucet anywhere. the brita bottle ....
