Here’s the day that was — and will be — in Florida politics.
Publix, the most prominent private partner in Florida’s vaccine distribution network, strongly disputed a news report insinuating the company had been allowed to operate with little oversight.
The company’s corporate office offered strong words in response to a Miami Herald report regarding the supermarket’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
“From the beginning of the vaccination rollout at Publix pharmacies, Publix has been in direct and constant contact with the state, requesting direction and frequently detailing vaccination plans at our stores,” reads a statement from the Lakeland-based grocery chain.

Update (March 24, 2021): The Middleton High School community in Florida is rallying around Delvin White, a Black school resource officer after he was fired earlier this month for using racial slurs when arresting a group of people.
People who sympathize with White agree that he should have been punished for the offensive language he used that was recorded on his body camera, but argue that ending the career of a popular and respected Black officer at the school seems exaggerated and unnecessary, Tampa Bay Times reported.

Black police officer fired after using N-word

Share and speak up for justice, law & order...
TAMPA, Fla. — The school resource officer at Middleton High School was fired Tuesday after his body-worn camera captured him using the n-word multiple times, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Officer Delvin White was fired for “violations of policy that prohibit discriminatory conduct,” said a news release. He was an eight-year veteran of the department, Tampa Bay Times reported.
A disposition letter released by police about White’s actions said he used the racial slur while on the phone and directly to a suspect while making an arrest Nov. 30.
The officer is black, Tampa police spokesman Eddy Durkin confirmed to the Times.
