A social media post by a Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 board candidate last month suggesting she would ignore the district's request for her to quarantine her kids led to concerned parents and residents reaching out to the district, the McHenry County Department of Health and the Crystal Lake Police Department, records show.
Cascia Talbert, who currently is not a member of the school board but is running for a spot in the upcoming election, posted an email from a school nurse saying a person who rode on a district bus tested positive for COVID-19, according to screenshots of the Facebook post sent into the Northwest Herald. According to the email, Talbert should quarantine her children if they were on the bus that day.

A Cass County man faces multiple murder charges

A Virginia man faces multiple murder charges in the aftermath of a shooting that left a former girlfriend and another woman dead at a Virginia residence Sunday afternoon.
Robert D. Harris, 71, of Virginia was formally charged Tuesday with six counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm in Cass County court.
Harris, who is being held in the Morgan County Jail in Jacksonville because Cass County does not have a jail, appeared before the county's resident judge, Timothy J. Wessel, in person.
The victims, Kathleen G. Wzientek, 68, and Brenda G. Crum, 64, both of Virginia, were found dead in Wzientek's residence in the 100 block of South East Street.

When the Griffin family brought their new dog back to their Vancouver home in April, he wasn’t quite what they had expected.
The pup, a 3-month-old rescue shipped up from a Louisiana shelter shuttered by COVID-19, wasn’t the 7-pound terrier mix in the photo who would have been just right for their small yard. He was bigger — a little over 13 pounds, expected to hit 35 once fully grown — and a DNA test revealed he was a high-energy combination of Siberian husky and miniature pinscher.
