Denison receives additional COVID assistance funds

Denison receives additional COVID assistance funds

The city of Denison could soon have access to more funds to distribute to local agencies for responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city recently received an additional $143,572 for its Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus funding, which will offset the cost of pandemic response for the city and its community partners.
The city council was expected to discuss amending its action plan for 2019 to reflect these additional funds when it met at 6 p.m. Monday at Denison City Hall.
These funds are intended to provide "financial assistance to establish, stabilize and expand microenterprises that provide education, medical, food delivery, cleaning and other services to support health and childcare." City documents indicate that these funds can be provided to multiple agencies that provide public services that prevent, prepare for and respond to the pandemic.

Denison considers 'dumpster diving' ordinance

Denison considers 'dumpster diving' ordinance

Denison City Leaders hope a new solid waste ordinance will help solve recent problems with dumpster diving behind businesses.
The City Council is slated to consider amendments to the ordinance aimed at giving it teeth and providing police with enforcement authority. The ordinance is expected to be discussed when the council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Denison City Hall.
"Up until we pass this ordinance, the police department hasn't really had any enforcement teeth to enforce that, so we are going to add that to the solid waste ordinance," Interim City Manager Bobby Atteberry said.

Denison sets max price for first phase of Main Street improvements at $16M

Herald Democrat
Visions of a revitalized Denison streetscape passed one of the final hurdles from becoming reality this week when the Denison City Council approved a guaranteed maximum price for the first phase of the D3 project.
The council agreed to accept the $16.83 million price tag for the first phase of the project, which will see a redesign and improvement along Main Street and its connected alleyways.
The project has been a long-term goal for the city following a series of public meetings, along with interviews with downtown stakeholders nearly five years ago about the possible future of downtown Denison.
