Interactive map allows users to type in an address to determine whether their property is within a hazard zone
According to new California Geological Survey tsunami maps, the entirety of the Santa Barbara waterfront is in a hazard area that reaches to Highway 101. A portion of the zone extends north of the freeway, in an area bounded by Garden Street on the west, East Haley Street on the north and North Salsipuedes Street on the east. The California Geological Survey (CGS) has released new interactive Tsunami Hazard Area maps for Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, useful for evacuation planning in an extraordinary event.
The maps allow users to type in an address to determine whether a particular property is within a tsunami hazard area. Local tsunami evacuation material will be added to the online map interface as it is developed. To view the maps, visit https://www.conservation.ca.gov/cgs/Pages/Tsunami/TsunamiHome.aspx.
Working with the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), the Tsunami Hazard Area maps include new data and improved computer modeling results, and replace maps published by CGS in 2009.
