KSL TV SALT LAKE CITY — A hiker died after he fell on a trail in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Thursday, according to police. The 31-year-old man from Salt Lake City died while descending the Mount Superior trail, police said Friday morning. He was identified later as Brent Rane. KSL TV WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman died after she went off the road and hit a tree in West Valley City on Friday morning, police said. The crash happened about 4:17 a.m. on 3500 South near 5400 West, West Valley Police Sgt. John Pittman said. The woman, who is between 30 and 40 years old, was driving west on 3500 South when she went off the road and hit a large tree, Pittman said. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the car, according to police. She likely died instantly or very quickly after the impact, Pittman added.
