In its first Country Climate and Development Reports (CCDRs), published at the end of 2023, the World Bank makes a number of recommendations for improving access to freshwater in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, including speeding up the modernisation of irrigation systems in 2024. According to the financial institution, agriculture is one of the most water-hungry sectors in the region.

The World Bank has affirmed plans to increase climate financing for the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region to $10 billion by 2025. In last three years (from 2021-23), the Bank said it had provided $6.3 billion in climate financing for the region.
