To bring attention to the problem of insufficient housing production and its possible solutions, the White House held a webinar titled "Reducing Land Use and Zoning Restrictions" in October 2021. Brian Deese, director of the National Economic Council; Cecilia Rouse, chair of the Council of Economic Advisors; and Ed Glaeser, professor of economics at Harvard University, framed the issues, including the 3.8 million national housing unit shortage. Two panels composed of local and state officials discussed approaches to zoning regulation reform.
