Chicago, IL – Chicago Police Department (CPD) Officer Israel “Izzy” Martinez died unexpectedly on April 12, according to the police union.
Officer Martinez, 27, served eight years in the Illinois Army National Guard prior to joining the CPD in June of 2017, the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 7 said in a blog post on Tuesday.
He was a staff sergeant and deployed to Kuwait during his military service, the union explained on a fundraising page established to help the officer’s family in the wake of their loss.
“Israel loved serving both as a military service member and as a Chicago Police Officer,” the FOP said. ....
