Chicago, IL – Chicago Police Department (CPD) Officer Israel “Izzy” Martinez died unexpectedly on April 12, according to the police union. Officer Martinez, 27, served eight years in the Illinois Army National Guard prior to joining the CPD in June of 2017, the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 7 said in a blog post on Tuesday. He was a staff sergeant and deployed to Kuwait during his military service, the union explained on a fundraising page established to help the officer’s family in the wake of their loss. “Israel loved serving both as a military service member and as a Chicago Police Officer,” the FOP said. ....

The goal for the 22-year-old was to beat Modafferi, get another win in the summer and fight for the belt at year’s end. Unfortunately for her, she lost the fight by decision and tore her ACL which has kept her out of action for the remainder of the year. “That loss sucked to get injured but the loss is not disappointing,” Barber said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “What was worse is the fact I lost a fight and couldn’t come back right away because of the injury.
