Alex Witt hosts coverage of national and international news, including breaking stories. When a meeting of that nature, would it constitute a violation of the law . You have to look at what laws, rules, Regulation Statutes are violated here. When did you learn that the Denial Wasnt True . Well, let me tell you two things on that. I was on the case a couple of weeks, and there was a lot of Information Gathering and as Rudy Giuliani said, i had Bad Information at that point. In a situation like this, you have over time, facts develop. Thats what investigations do. Lets start with nbcs white house correspondent, Kelly Odonnell who was covering the president in new jersey first. Before we g to to to the rest o great panel this sunday. What are you hearing right now . The president is certainly going after the Special Counsel today, isnt he . Reporter well, good to be with you, richard, and the president is really hitting a number of his major frequent targets, the Special Counsel, the medi
time and maybe doesn t think mueller will respond strongly. i m not exactly sure but it really was a mistake. do you think that maybe the judge took into account the president s tweet? do you i think he knew about it, i wish you well in court? do you think that played into it? that s a really interesting question. it does seem to me we have political and legal cross currents and part of what he was doing acting to the suggest out there that normally can t be rebutted but he s in rogued and he can and wanted to push back not just the political side but public and want to let the justice system know he s just. he s being sentenced for serious crimes. my best guess, yes. this is important. we saw redaw redactions.
probably hit the bathroom, they came back and the lawyers who are white shoe, very well established lawyers fell on their swords immediately and said don t blame the defendant. this was our idea and they knew by then it had been a debacle they tried to trot this out and they then walked it back as best they could. that s why they needed a continuation. for some reason they are towing the party line when it comes to the president and supporters. i don t know exactly why. in part it s because of judge sullivan s reputation and tough on the government so they think maybe the judge will like it if we poke at them a little bit and mueller already said he deserves time and maybe doesn t think mueller will respond strongly. i m not exactly sure but it really was a mistake. do you think that maybe the judge took into account the president s tweet? do you i think he knew about it, i wish you well in court? do you think that played into it? that s a really interesting
welcome back. joining us from washington to look at axios a.m., co-founder mike allen. mike, what is the one big thing this morning? happy getaway day and the axios one big thing is behind the scenes trump v. mueller. so after president trump s team hand delivered those answers to robert mueller yesterday, we had a long conversation with his lawyer, rudy giuliani. rudy giuliani told jonathan swan that he doesn t think mueller will follow this up with a subpoena. there were no answers here to questions about whether or not the president object vukted justice which is a big potential issue for mueller. but rudy giuliani tells us that he thinks the special counsel would not win that battle, which would go on for months. so he said the special counsel has not made any commitment, that he won t delve in there,
worry according to the people he has been talking to, who have told us at the washington post about those conversations. he is concerned, but the way it manifests itself publicly is in more of a roar. it s just these attack lines at the media, these tweet attacks at robert mueller. we measured the number of times he tweeted the word witch hunt and it s increased dramatically and that s because he is adopting a much more aggressive stance publicly against the special counsel. he has really devised a strategy to attack, to defeat, to tear down this russia investigation, in part, because rudy giuliani, his personal attorney has assured him privately he doesn t think mueller has anything. and one of the advisers we talked to, rudy has been telling trump that the other guy is bluffing with a pair of twos, and trump feels like he doesn t have much to lose, and he is out there attacking this investigation to try to discredit mueller as best he can. as you say in the article,
