The Higgs government has ruled out creating a provincial police force to replace the RCMP. Public Safety Minister Kris Austin said there’s no money in his budget this year to set up such a force.

McAdam Mayor Ken Stannix says he's pleased the RCMP are now patrolling the village at night, but not everyone feels like enough is being done to combat crime.

About 300 residents from the area of McAdam, N.B., attended a public meeting at the village high school Monday evening, hoping to learn how the RCMP was going to make them feel safer in their own homes.

About 100 people gathered in McAdam to voice their concerns over what they say is inadequate service from the RCMP, which has led to an increase in thefts and allegedly provoked an act of vigilante justice.
