February 3, 2021 Richard C. Johnston Sr. (Dick) passed peacefully surrounded by family at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes Monday, Feb. 1, 2021. Richard was born at home in Burnham, Pa., to Avril Creighton and F. Lloyd Bay. At a young age, his mother remarried and he was adopted by James Johnston. Dick grew up in Flushing, Queens, N.Y. In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Trapp. While raising a young family, he worked full time and attended Pace University in the evenings, graduating in 1964. Mr. Johnston worked most of his career in the textile industry for West Point Pepperell, living and working in Ohio and North Carolina. In 1967 he was promoted to a senior executive position in NYC and moved the family to Manalapan, N.J., where they resided until 1990. Dick was dedicated to his family and wife Pat; they were inseparable. While living in New Jersey, Dick coached recreation basketball and was a Eucharistic minister and lector at St. Gabriel’s Parish in Marlboro, N.J. Dick and Pat were involved in Marriage Encounter and served as a Worldwide Team Couple.

John Christensen The Chronicle-Express YATES COUNTY While COVID-19 is putting a damper on celebrations, the spirit of Christmas lives on in the hearts of Yates County’s most devoted helpers. The Yates Christmas Program turned from their annual shopping events at the Penn Yan Army Reserve Center and the Presbyterian & Baptist Churches in favor of a safer distribution of gift cards to the enrolled families and children. Held last week at the Finger Lakes Produce Auction, YCP volunteers braved the season’s first snow to direct families in the two-lane, drive-through distribution. Organizer Donna Johnston said the operation worked so smoothly and quickly, they had none of the lines they feared serving all the families. As impressive as the organized flow was, volunteers say they miss the regular shopping event, and have every hope they will return to it next year.
