"I tried to pick my leg up because it wouldn't let me rollover. I had to physically pick my leg up throw it over to get up," said Ray. His family rushed him to Medical City Frisco, where doctors found a tumor wrapped around his spine, pressing down on his spinal cord, paralyzing him from the chest down. "As soon as I saw it, I knew it was going to be challenging," said Director of Neurosurgery at Medical City Frisco Dr. Rob Dickerman. "He said, 'we have to act now if you're ever gonna walk again. There's a 50/50 chance you're not going to walk again,'" recalled Ray.
