Bikes for Books program provides 28 bicycles for DES youngsters

PERU Earlier this month, a drawing was held by Dirigo Elementary School in which two girls and two boys from each of the Pre-K-5 classes received a bike, thanks to the Masons’ Bikes for Books program.
This is the fourth year of the Bikes for Books program held by King Hiram Lodge 57 of Mexico, which supplied 28 bicycles and safety helmet..
Principal Charlie Swan said students in the seven classes read books over a three-week period. Each time participating students in the program read an age-appropriate book, their name went in a drawing. The more they read, the better their chances of earning a bike. ....

Utility-scale solar firm applies for state permit • The Yellow Springs News


A Texas company looking to build a 1,500-acre, 175-megawatt solar power project in Greene County has applied for a permit.
On Friday, April 16, Vesper Energy of Houston, Tx., submitted its 136-page application, with 1,055 pages of additional figures and appendices, to the Ohio Power Siting Board, a state office with the authority to approve or deny the project.
Since 2017, the company, once part of the Australian-owned Lendlease, has been seeking leases and preparing studies in the project area, located just southeast of Yellow Springs in portions of Miami Township, Xenia Township and Cedarville Township. The company now has 43-year leases on close to 1,300 acres from 17 landowners. ....

GC will hold town hall on proposed solar farm

XENIA The Greene County commissioners will host a town hall meeting next week about a proposed solar-powered electric generating facility in Greene County. The town hall is an opportunity for the Greene County commissioners to hear local concerns about the facility, which has sparked consternation among local residents.
The town hall will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 at the Greene County Fairgrounds Assembly Hall, 120 Fairground Road in Xenia.
The proposed solar facility, titled Kingwood Solar Project, is the work of Vesper Energy, a solar company headquartered in Texas. Vesper acquired and rebranded Lendlease Energy Development, LLC, which has operated in the Miami Valley since 2015. ....
