Just a few months into his tenure as Pike County Sheriff, Tracy Evans had the opportunity to showcase another side of his life for fifth grade students at Eastern Local Schools. For those fifth graders, the school day began Tuesday morning with an 8 a.m. assembly featuring Evans and his bluegrass band, âEvans Brothers and Highway 52â. Band members include Tracy Evans (guitar/vocals), Todd Evans (vocals/upright bass), Amy White (upright bass), Jay White (mandolin/vocals), and Greg Romanello (banjo). Jay White serves as a substitute janitor at the school. White was the one who told school officials that Evans would like to give a concert and talk to the students, setting in motion the opportunity for the assembly. ....

Amazingly enough, the time will spring forward this weekend, which many of you have been looking forward to happening. Not only will the time change, but as seen on many news venues, we are now in March and next week, the 19 to be exact is when life as we knew it here in our area, changed in a way no one could have foreseen. The schools closed, businesses sent as many as possible that could to work from home, restaurants were told to shut down unless they had great social distance, and other businesses like hairdressers, dentists and many others had to shut down. ....
Local schools receive COVID vaccines Vaccines for school employees were administered in Meigs County over the past week. Sarah Hawley | Sentinel MEIGS COUNTY School district personnel in Meigs County have now received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Eastern, Meigs and Southern were scheduled to receive their first vaccines the week of Feb. 15, with Eastern and Meigs delayed to this week due to the winter weather last week. “The vaccine adds yet another layer of protection for our district as we continue to navigate through the pandemic,” said Eastern Local Supt. Steve Ohlinger. Southern Local Supt. Tony Deem added, “Vaccinations are one more line of defense.” ....
