Five years of helping mothers

AUBURN — Misty Spicer of St. Joe said she was a “scared and frustrated mess” as she faced an unexpected pregnancy in early 2020.
She decided to visit the Women’s Care Center in west Auburn “to see what they were, because I had driven by thousands of times and had recently seen a Facebook ad for them,” she said.
Today, Spicer is the mother of a 10-month-old son, Cruz, born Sept. 3, 2020.
Without Women’s Care Center, “I’m not even sure how I would have made it through the pregnancy or had everything Cruz needed!” Spicer said.
Since opening its doors five years ago today, Women’s Care Center has helped the mothers of nearly 1,300 babies in the northeastern Indiana area. It has provided more than 2,000 pregnancy tests and more than 2,100 ultrasound exams.

Butler Public Library News

Grants, donations
Thanks to grants from the Eastside Area Community Foundation and Friends of the Butler Public Library, as well as a gift in memory of Mae Frakes, the library has been able to substantially increase the number of large-print format books in its collection.
Through these generous donations, an outreach program has been established with The Laurels of DeKalb to offer reading materials to residents through monthly deliveries by library staff.
”We are grateful for these gifts, which allow us to serve our community beyond our doors,” said library director Sarah Dempsey.

Butler launches revamped website

That’s what the City of Butler did in revamping its official website, butler.in.us.
The process began in October, City Planner Steve Bingham explained. City leaders worked with Michigan-based Revize, an organization specializing in government websites, to make the desired upgrades.
“As with a lot of websites, periodically, you just need to take a look at them and see if they are really representing your community, your business or your organization very well, if it’s easy to use, and if people can access information easily from the website,” Bingham said.
“We decided that we wanted something that was a little cleaner, a little simpler to use, while still providing the information that we need to provide.”
