The Syrian Conflict: 10 Years On - Experiences of Syrians in Scotland

In the 10th year since the beginning of the Syrian Crisis we reflect on a decade of continued courage and inspirational activism. About this Event In the midst of a pandemic and with the conflict in Syria reaching its tenth year, European nations, including the United Kingdom, have harshened restrictions and their solidarity towards displaced people has waned significantly, to the point of turning their backs on those in need of support. In this discussion, we bring together both the human lived experience of Syrian newcomers to Scotland, with the grounded legal and political knowledge of those working to improve conditions for asylum, hoping to provide a well-rounded reflection of what it means to be a New Scot, at a time when borders are closing, government policies are growing ever more hostile, and support is increasingly hard to access due to restrictions.
