Summary
Simple arithmetic would show that for a multiple choice exam your result cannot be in odd numbers. Secondly, when one analyses the results of successive results one notices a pattern where for some subject the highest score defies logic or expectation.
The dust has now settled on the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results released recently by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha. Contrary to fears that the public had about the impact of the pandemic on learning across the country, the results demonstrated the resilience of the pupils and all those who worked to support them, ranging from their parents, teachers and the larger society.

Why this week is critical as learners and teachers settle down for challenging term

The government and education sector players will keenly be observing events of this week as they will determine the successful return to normal learning.
Compliance with the Covid-19 protocols among learners and teachers will be tested after the school community spent first two weeks in the institutions.
Primary and secondary school heads yesterday said most learners dropped their guard in the third week when schools opened for Grade Four, Standard Eight and Form Four classes late last year.
Some teachers say during the partial schools opening last year, most learners and teachers were not keen to wear masks and clear breach of some of the protocols was glaring during games and boarding sessions.

Breaking News | Kenya: Mirage of Offering Lessons Under Trees

On Monday, Regional Development Principal Secretary Margaret Mwakima was wrapping up inspection of school reopening in Kilifi when she met a shock of her life.
On entering Mtomondoni Primary School in Mtwapa, accompanied by journalists, she found hundreds of pupils sitting on logs and stones, writing on their laps — some sweating under scorching sun.
Dr Mwakima had visited several other schools in the county and witnessed similar scenes but this one left her ashamed, making her leave in a huff without addressing the media.

Time-sensitivity amidst a pandemic: Covid-19's impact on abortion access in Kenya

By Lily Biddell
The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on pregnant people seeking abortion all over the world. Access to abortion varies widely and is country specific; from tight restrictions which completely ban abortion (such as in Angola and Iraq) or allow it only to save the mother’s life (Mali and Brazil), to terminations on demand until the point of viability (the UK and the Netherlands). Covid-19 lockdowns, curfews and social distancing measures have impacted abortion access majorly, causing over 5000 reproductive health clinics across the world to close. The impact has been particularly detrimental in Kenya, a country where already 43% of pregnancies are unintended. Unintended pregnancy has two main outcomes: unsafe abortion and unplanned births.
