A 71-year-old man accused of starting the Oak Fire in Mariposa County last July was in court on Thursday.

Wackerman is a retired firefighter.

A Mariposa man was charged Tuesday afternoon with setting the Oak Fire that burned nearly 20,000 acres and destroyed 127 homes last summer near Yosemite National Park, in what authorities described as the most devastating blaze in the county’s history.   

Law enforcement will release new details about the arrest of a 71-year-old man suspected of starting the Oak Fire.
