The Galesburg Public Library is one of 61 organizations nationwide selected to receive a 2021-2022 NEA Big Read grant. A grant of $11,800 will support a community reading program focusing on An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo in April 2022.
The grant of almost $12,000 will support a community reading program that every year centers around a particular book. This year the book is "An American Sunrise" by Joy Harjo, who is the current United States Poet Laureate. The Big Read is an initiative of the NEA in partnership with Arts Midwest that aims to "broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book."
