Bet presumably that their plane hadnt reached full flying altitude like 33000 feet or whatever by which at the point at which this accident happened and that the reason why it was able to glide down face legally and safely. No as a matter of fact the higher you are the more time you have to glide down no and it actually makes it safer if you are very high.
