95% of GSIS workers nationwide now vaxxed vs. Covid-19

MANILA - State pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has reported that 95 percent of its workers nationwide have already been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). "As of November 2021, a total of 4,361 of 4,581 GSIS personnel, including job order personnel, utility workers, and security guards, have been inoculated," GSIS president and general manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet said in a statement Monday. "Prayoridad ng GSIS ang kaligtasan ng empleyado. Kaya naman nagpapasalamat tayo na kabilang ang state workers sa (The priority of the GSIS is the safety of the employees. That is why we are thankful that state workers are included in the) Priority Group A4 ng Covid-19 Immunization Program ng ating gobyerno (of our government). We were able to book vaccinations for our employees with the local government units across the country," he added. Under the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases Resolution No. 117, series of 2021, Priority Group A4 covers government employees and workers in the private and informal sectors who are physically reporting to their workplace. The state pension fund has always been at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19. Just recently, GSIS was recognized by the ASEAN Social Security Association for its strategic communication program amid the pandemic. It also reaped a Silver Anvil and three Quill awards in February and March 2021 for its Covid-19 related communication initiatives. In September 2020, it was the only government agency in the world to win the prestigious Gold Stevie award for having the "Most Valuable Government Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic." As soon as GSIS opened its door to the public after the quarantine restrictions were lifted in 2020, it has been strictly implementing safety protocols to minimize the risk of exposure of its employees, clients, and visitors to Covid-19. It has installed computer systems that automatically count people inside the building and adopted the official government contact tracing app StaySafe.ph. Handwashing stations were also set up at the GSIS offices' entrance. Employees and guests are required to wear face masks and face shields inside the office premises at all times. In addition, GSIS has implemented contactless methods of accepting applications for loans, claims, and benefits to respond to emerging client needs under the new normal. For pensioners complying with the Annual Pensioners Information Revalidation (APIR), appointments may be arranged through text messages (SMS) or email for interviews via Facebook Messenger, Zoom, and Viber. Moreover, GSIS carried out the Bayanihan Fund for Frontliners program which provides families of government front-liners an additional PHP500,000 in insurance benefits on top of their existing death and funeral benefits. The GSIS has also adopted Local Isolation and General Treatment Areas for Covid-19 cases (Ligtas Covid) centers in coordination with the Department of Health and the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Under the Ligtas Covid program, the pension fund grants financial assistance for the purchase of vaccines, patient care equipment, hygiene kits, handwashing facilities, oxygen support and maintenance, medication, and other requirements. VAX OF TERTIARY STUDENTS. The Commission on Higher Education Ilocos Region launches in San Carlos City the massive advocacy campaign for Covid-19 vaccination and ceremonial inoculation for tertiary students in Ilocos Region at The City Mall on Nov. 23, 2021. It was the 13th launch site of CHED. (Photo by Liwayway Yparraguirre) SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan - Over 80,000 tertiary students in the Ilocos Region have been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as of November 22, according to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). In an interview on Wednesday, CHED Ilocos Region chief education program specialist, Dr. Danilo Bose, said the massive vaccination advocacy campaign started in September 2021. Bose said based on the present data, the achieved rate is so far over 40 percent as against CHED Ilocos' target at 70 percent vaccination rate of tertiary students by the end of December to attain population protection. "Ang target ng CHED, ang mga schools na mataas ang vaccination rate ay pwede ng mag-start ng limited face-to-face by December. Yong iba na naghahanda can start sa second semester January or February 2022 (CHED targets that the schools with high vaccination rates can already start limited face-to-face by December this year. While others can start in the second semester of January or February next year)," he added. When the limited face-to-face classes start, Bose said students who are not vaccinated yet or are hesitant to receive the Covid-19 jabs have the option of flexible learning. "They can continue to avail of the online or offline classes," he said. Bose said CHED is doing an advocacy campaign to encourage students to be vaccinated for the restart of the face-to-face classes. "(CHED) Chairman (Prospero) Popoy de Vera is constantly coordinating with vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. He was assured that there is no problem with supply. Whatever the need of the school is will be given through the local government unit (LGU). The advocacy campaign is coordinated with the Provincial Health Office, then to the LGU. The supply used for the students is in addition to the supply of the host LGU," he added. Meanwhile, Bose said over 90 percent of teaching and non-teaching personnel of tertiary schools in the region are vaccinated. As part of the program, some 300 college students in San Carlos City were inoculated against Covid-19 in a mall-based vaccination here on Tuesday. "Lubos naman ang suporta ng lokal na pamahalaan sa kampanyang ito ng CHED upang unahin ang kaligtasan ng mga estudyante sa nalalapit na muling pagbubukas ng face-to-face classes sa siyudad (The local government unit is in full support of this campaign of CHED to prioritize the safety of the students as the opening of face-to-face classes in the city is upcoming)," city information officer Jhuliano Resuello Nazareno said in a statement. He said among the participating students were from Binalatongan Community College, San Carlos College, and many other higher education institutions in the city. Nazareno said with the kick-off of the intensified inoculation for college students, the City Health Office is set to issue guidelines to universities to have systematic coordination between the city government and education institutions. "This is in preparation for the limited face-to-face classes next year as stated in the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases Resolution No. 148-G that gives (a) go signal to higher education institutions under Alert Level 2 and Alert Level 3 to implement limited face-to-face classes," he added. Stela Rose Rayos, chair of the Safety Seal Committee, said in a statement on Friday the Inspection and Certification Team will award the certificate to Mayor Evelio Leonardia on November 3. The approval signifies the compliance of an establishment or entity with the minimum health standards required to contain the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). "As one of the prime implementing authorities of the program, the BCGC should be an example to all public and private entities, with the end goal of protecting the public against Covid-19 as the economy reopens under the new normal," Rayos said. The Safety Seal Inspection and Certification Team is composed of representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP). DILG-Bacolod City Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag said the Safety Seal Certificate is valid for only six months. "We will validate the certification every six months for renewal. If we gave them a seal, it means they are compliant with our safety health protocols," she added. As of October 5, some 52 establishments in the city have already been awarded the Safety Seal Certificate, which is a physical manifestation of the compliance of an establishment with the minimum health standards imposed by the government to contain the spread of Covid-19 and is to be displayed conspicuously at all entrances of establishments. The Safety Seal Certification Program under the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases Resolution 87 aims to increase compliance by private or public entities with the minimum public health standards set by the government. It also seeks to encourage the adoption and use of the Stay Safe.ph digital contract tracing application as well as increase consumer confidence as the government safely reopens the economy. (PNA) }
