As far as I am aware, there is no conduit between his GP surgery, the NHS and Heathbridge that will activate a little sign that will pop up and advise them that my father-in-law is 88 and requires vaccinating at home! I tried to contact Healthcare and rang them no less than 143 times in one day only to find the line constantly ‘engaged’. Please enlighten me, when is my father-in-law going to be vaccinated at home? If he was able bodied he would have been vaccinated at the ExCeL Centre this week. What provision has been made to vaccinate vulnerable elderly people in their own homes? ....
Harold Hill war memorial, Hilldene Avenue, in 2017. - Credit: Lindsay Jones War memorial desecrated again William Swain, Barnstaple Road, Harold Hill, writes: To my dismay and that of several others of my generation, the Harold Hill War Memorial has yet again been desecrated. Wreaths have been scattered about all over the place and little mementoes that were laid at the memorial on Remembrance Sunday by young children have been stolen. Unfortunately, those honoured dead who made that noble sacrifice so that we can live in peace and freedom has not relevance for meaning for those vandals and ingrates. As far as they are concerned, it is other times, other customs. ....
Readers letters A London bus driver wearing a face mask and gloves - Credit: PA Keeping the city running Green Party London Assembly member Caroline Russell writes: Workers in frontline services in London – from TfL staff to police and firefighters along with teachers and people delivering food and mail need to be protected from coronavirus rapidly. Prioritising vaccination for the people keeping the city running is a sensible step once NHS workers and the most vulnerable groups have been reached. I asked Transport for London for figures on deaths for their workers last summer, and was shocked to see the majority were Black or Asian. We now know that 60 TfL workers have died in total, and that a full 10% of their workers are off sick. There is a clear need to protect workers in jobs like this. ....
Readers letters Highgate School has published an 85-page document on its next refurbishment - Credit: Highgate School Offset these publicly funded costs ST Fielder, Hornsey Lane, writes: What a shame Highgate School last week declined to donate £5,000 to Haringey Food Banks as a goodwill gesture for running up council resources and costs devoted to a consultation and 85-page document about the school’s next refurbishment. The School - which declares a net annual profit of over £2 million - doubtless runs philanthropic projects, but these are no offset for using up council money and efforts at this time. And now it has refused to give £5,000 to food banks in exchange for these publicly-funded costs? Thanks a bunch, Ebeneezer! ....
Rainbows is the theme if the 10th Upminster Methodist Church Christmas tree festival - Credit: Michelle DeVido Trees spreading Christmas spirit Cllr Ron Ower, Derham Gardens, Upminster, writes: In these difficult times it’s great to point out what wonderful communities we have in Havering. Here in Upminster and Cranham we are very pleased with how active our community is! We should have seen this year the 10th Christmas Tree festival at Upminster Methodist Church. As they were unfortunately unable to hold this local residents were invited to purchase a tree and erect it in their own front garden and create a community festival around our local streets . ....
