Next year's presidential race may not have any Texans.

It’s early yet, but next year’s presidential race may feature something the political world hasn't seen in the last 50 years: no elected officials from Texas. Three Texas Republicans, Gov. Greg Abbott, Sen. Ted Cruz and former Rep. Will Hurd, are still considering bids. But if none runs, it would be the first time a Texas politician has not been part of a major presidential bid since 1972. A possible presidential race without a Texan would be a departure from recent cycles. And although only three presidents have actually called Texas home, the state has left a mark on Washington.
