To secure the future of the imperiled seabirds, scientists are transporting eggs from Hawaii to Mexico, where Laysan Albatross foster parents await.

Hawaii officials are investigating potential harm to seabirds and an endangered native bee species that relied on the area.

On the 30th of August, Maureen Goodwin saw two unusual birds on her inland Muri lawn. She googled and identified them as Australian Southern Lapwings rather than the Northern due to the black ‘ei kakī (collar). Over the next few days, they fed, ran over the lawn, and flew around the area, writes Gerald McCormack, director of Cook Islands Natural Heritage Trust.

Wildlife is becoming increasingly endangered as a result of climate change. Moving species to new environments has been controversial, but scientists have now begun relocating animals, leaving federal officials to consider when it is right to do so.
