The Edwards County Farm Bureau Young Leaders and Wabash Valley Service Company conducted the 14th annual Edwards County Corn Yield Survey yesterday. Thomas was sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty to a Class 4 felony count of disorderly conduct and was sentenced to two years probation and time served. Two other cases were dismissed per his plea, and he was also ordered to pay court costs. Fairfield police arrested 39-year-old Fairfield resident Christopher D. Young yesterday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm or ammunition without a FOID card. Young was taken to the Wayne County Jail and held, pending an appearance before a judge to set bond. Wayne County deputies arrested 37-year-old Princeton, Indiana, resident Jackson C. Perryman last night on a failure to appear warrant out of Missouri for possession of a controlled substance. He was held in the jail pending transport. The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced Illinois Route 1 will be closed eight miles northeast of Grayville and seven miles southwest of Mt. Carmel Monday and Tuesday. Work is expected to be completed Wednesday. Only local traffic will be permitted between County Highway 8 and County Road 800 North, as crews work to replace a box culvert southwest of Keenesburg. Volunteers for a Progressive Fairfield and FNB will present Toy Story 4 Saturday at Leo French Park. This will be the final Movie Night at the Park for the summer, as the event was postponed last week due to rain, and Tropical Sno will be on hand. FNB will host a Bingo game at 7:15, and winners will receive small prizes. The movie itself will begin at 7:45. The USDA has accepted 2.8 million acres in offers from ag producers and private landowners for enrollment into the Conservation Reserve Program in 2021. CRP Grasslands closed last week, but Continuous signup remains open, so the USDA expects to enroll more acres into all of CRP than the three million expiring acres. Governor J.B. Pritzker and IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike have announced vaccination requirements for individuals in high-risk settings as COVID-19 infection rates and hospitalizations increase. All healthcare workers, pre-K-12 teachers and staff, and higher education personnel and students will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The first dose in a two-dose series, or a single dose vaccination, must be received by September 5th, and second doses must be received 30 days after the first. Affected people unable or unwilling to receive the vaccine will be required to take a COVID test at least once per week. The governor and Dr. Ezike also announced a statewide indoor mask mandate for all Illinois residents, regardless of vaccination status. Masking requirements are effective Monday. The Wayne County Health Department announced 79 new cases of COVID-19 since Monday, bringing its total to 2,269; 191 people were in isolation. Hamilton County announced eight new cases yesterday and sat at 1,018; two people were hospitalized, and 29 were in isolation. The state Department of Public Health announced 4,041 new cases of COVID-19 and 59 additional deaths. Statewide totals sat at 1,503,063 cases and 23,875 deaths. The Southern Region had a positivity rate of 10.6 percent on the 23rd, down from 11.1 percent on the 22nd. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says deputies have made contact with 17-year-old Risten Kell and have confirmed he is safely with a parent. The Office had asked for help in locating him yesterday. In other police action, Wayne County Crime Stoppers says it is paying out $1,000 on a tip sent in by text leading to the arrest of Eric Willett. The unemployment rate in Illinois fell from 7.9 percent in June to seven percent in July, per recent statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Wayne County's rate dropped from 5.4 percent in June to 4.8 percent in July, and Edwards County's went from 5.7 to 5.2 percent. In July 2020, Wayne County had a rate of 10.4 percent, and Edwards County sat at 9.7 percent. Child abuse cases are rising in Illinois, according to the Department of Children and Family Services. In central Illinois, DCFS reported over 25,000 investigations in 2021. Samantha Stevenson, with the Child Protection Network, says the investigations have resulted in 6,000 confirmed child abuse cases; she says detectives, DCFS, police, members of the Children Advocacy Center, and social workers are handling investigations due to the large caseload. Bail has been set at $50,000 in Fayette County Court for 46-year-old Oregon resident Jeremy K. Dickey. He has been charged with money laundering for allegedly transporting monetary instruments on Interstate 70 in Fayette County. The charge is a Class 1 felony, and Dickey is set to appear in court September 28th for a preliminary hearing.
