When the call came in, Patrice Spicer figured she was being summoned in to work. She was, after all, on call at her job as a resource endoscopy nurse. She works at Marlboro Hospital and Southboro Endoscopy. But the call wasn't at all what she was expecting and the voice on the other end of the line was UMass Memorial Health Care president and CEO Dr. Eric W. Dickson, who told her she'd be boarding the New England Patriots plane — AirKraft — Sunday to head to Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida. "I just could not believe it," she said. The issues have been front and center for several months during the school closures as well as the on/off in-person teaching and assorted “hybrid” models. To be honest, I (and many others) had thought that in the age of Zoom, Skype and instant messaging — remote learning, while not easy, would certainly be doable. Reality quickly disabused us of that pleasant notion.
