Westbound and the california Highway Patrol became involved. When the suspect reached berkeley, Highway Patrol officers deployed a spike strip across 80 Near University avenue. With the tires of his vehicle damaged the suspect lost control,struck a concrete median barrier just past the powell street exit in emeryville and came to a stop. Thats where police surrounded the vehicle and engaged in a standoff with the suspect. Police attempted to negotiate with the suspect, asking him to surrender, but eventually the he exited his vehicle and may have fired a gun at the officer prompting them to us...
