BOC earns P80-M from sale of overstaying containers

MANILA - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Monday reported that it has collected more than PHP80 million from selling 96 out of the 304 overstaying containers for the first three month of 2022. Through the Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group and Auction and Cargo Disposal Division units of all BOC Collection Districts nationwide, the bureau earned an aggregate value of PHP80,764,977 from public auction of 96 containers that contained rice and galvanized steel, among others, according to a Facebook post. Aside from public auction, some of the containers were condemned and donated. Thirty-eight containers of twine, yarn droppings, and cuttings were donated to various agencies while 170 containers with used clothing, rotten foodstuff, used oil, used furniture, among others, were condemned from January to March. The average rate of the three-month paper slipped to 1.250 percent, the 182-day to 1.555 percent, and the 364-day to 1.857 percent. These were at 1.380 percent, 1.781 percent, and 1.883 percent for the 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day debt papers, respectively, during the auction last April 4. As many as 174 lawmakers voted in favor of the no-trust motion, two more than the required 172 for a simple majority in the 324-member National Assembly, the lower house of parliament. It is the first time a Pakistani prime minister has ever been ousted by a no-confidence motion put forward by the opposition.
