Labour Leader Frank Kokori Buries Wife, Esther Kokori ; Decries Rustic Traditional Practices


WARRI – Mrs.Esther Kokori, wife of foremost labour leader, and Pro Democracy activist, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, has been laid to rest in her hometown, Ohrerhe-Agbarho, Ughelli North Local government area of Delta State.
Chief Frank Kokori, flanked by some of his children and well-wishers at the funeral service. The funeral service which held at St.James Anglican Church, Oviore-Ovu, Ethiope East Local Government Area, was attended by family, friends and associates of the Kokoris.
The labour leader while giving his vote of thanks after the funeral service, appreciated all those present but however expressed displeasure over what he termed, “rustic Urhobo traditional practice”, where it is compulsory that women are taken to their ancestral homes for burial rather than allowing their husbands and children to decide where they( deceased women) should be buried. ....

Kokori advocates change in 'rustic' Urhobo tradition, buries wife of 53 years in grand style

Foremost unionist and former General Secretary of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, on Friday, called for a change in certain Urhobo traditions which he described as “rustic”.
The Ovu-born chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State made the call during church funeral service for his wife of 53 years, Mrs Esther Kokori, which held at St James Anglican Church, Ovorie-Ovu, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State. 
Kokori, in his remarks at the tail end of the church service, frowned at the scantiness of the attendance and the hurriedness which he said did not befit a woman who held the forte for democracy while he was incarcerated at Bama prisons in Borno State by late General Sanni Abacha. ....
