A Mount Vernon man has harvested Missouri’s first elk in modern history, according to the state’s Department of Conservation (DOC). The state’s initial elk hunting firearm season in modern history kicked off Saturday.In a Facebook post, DOC reports Joe Benthall harvested a 2.5-year-old bull elk Saturday afternoon on National Park Service property near Log Yard by Ellington.
