COVID cases in the country exceed 1,000 for the second consecutive day

The highest number of COVID cases in the country was reported yesterday (29) with a record of 1,466 cases.
This is the second consecutive day that the number of patients reported in a day has exceeded 1,000.
The highest number of patients were reported from the Colombo District, which was 228.
Meanwhile, when PCR tests were conducted on 14 persons in Divulwewa, Anamaduwa, 12 of them had tested positive for the virus. The persons diagnosed were identified to be relatives and had attended several Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations together.
Random tests which were carried out at the Galenbindunuwewa weekly market have diagnosed several fish traders with the coronavirus. A tense situation arose when the authorities decided to take measures to close the weekly fair. Four persons who obstructed the duties of Public Health Inspectors were also arrested. ....

NZ Herald owner NZME exceeded its guidance for the year to December 31 clocking up operating earnings of $67.3 million and signalling a return to dividends.
The media company had forecast operating ebitda of $63m-$66m including $8.6m accessed from Government Covid-19 wage subsidies.
Today it reported a statutory net profit of $14.2m compared to a net loss of $165.2m in 2019 when it suffered impairments to intangible assets.
The underlying earnings figure of $67.3m was a 3 per cent increase on the previous year.

NZME shares gained 2c to 92c following the result. The stock has climbed from a low of 18c in April. ....
