There is light at the end of the tunnel for the N$190 million-dollar Peugeot Opel Assembly Namibia (POAN) venture at Walvis Bay as legislation to enable the exportation of the locally assembled vehicles into the Southern African region has been finalised. The exportation of vehicles from the factory, established in 2019, has been marred by an export tariff of 18% as a result of Rules of Origin provisions in previously agreed regional trade agreements. Government owns 49% in POAN whilst global automotive manufacturer, PSA Groupe, owns the remaining 49%. 
However, according to deputy executive director in the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, Michael Humavindu, the trade ministry, with support from the finance ministry, worked on policy solutions which are to be gazetted early this year to ensure the exportation of the vehicles.  ....

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Integrated Strategy, devised by the Federal Board of Revenue, has amply contributed to significant increase in exports from Pakistan, reaching to US $2.4 billion in December 2020 as compare to US $ 1.6 billion in August 2020, showing about 50 percent growth.
As compared to the exports of US $1.993 billion during the same month of last year, the exports in grew by 18.3 per cent, according to FBR data.
While mentioning factors that facilitated growth in exports, the board stated that import duties on 1,623 tariff lines, pertaining to basic raw material and intermediate goods were reduced to zero through the Finance Act, 2020. ....

Webinar of investment opportunities in Sri Lanka to target French investors

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in France organised a webinar on 17 December. The webinar was sponsored by National Confederation of French Employers (Movement des enterprise France) MEDEF. The Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka – France Business Council worked closely with the BOI and Sri Lanka Embassy in Paris to make this event a success.
The objective of the webinar was to create more awareness regarding investment opportunities in Sri Lanka amongst potential French investors. The welcome speech was made by MEDEF International Managing Director Philippe Gautier. Gautier stated that MEDEF initially established contact with Sri Lanka 14 years ago, and recently launched the France-Sri Lanka Business Council. He also stated that MEDEF is currently in the process of promoting an inward delegation to visit Sri Lanka in 2021 and they are making every effort ....
