Lincoln: Persevering during a pandemic

Joni Lincoln Special to The Citizen I will not give up on the idea of a bicentennial for the town of Conquest. The planning meeting has been postponed again because we do not know how safe gatherings will be this summer! The next Zoom or in-person meeting will be on June 1. Please stay tuned for details! Any and all ideas are more than welcome! The Port Byron Old Erie Canal Heritage Park has opened for the season. If you have yet to go or if COVID-19 concerns kept you away last year, we are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, accessible from Route 31 west of Port Byron or eastbound on the Thruway just before exit 40. It is free. If you are interested in being a docent or volunteering, please stop by.

Seacoast Garden Club greets Spring with flowers, plants, gardens and pies

Seacoast Garden Club greets spring with flowers, plants, gardens and pies Portsmouth Herald KENNEBUNK – Spring has sprung and members of the Seacoast Garden Club are greeting these warmer days with a flurry of seasonal activities. On Thursday, April 29, 13 members gathered at Buffie Clarke’s home to assemble 93 May Baskets of fresh flowers for distribution to shut-ins, the elderly and garden club friends in the area.  Clarke, who has chaired this annual community outreach project for several years, appreciated the large array of colorful flowers that Seacoast members donated to the effort. She also noted that this year’s request for baskets was larger than in past years. Agencies receiving the bright baskets for distribution include Huntington Common, Atria and Home Instead, as well as various individuals.
