'Splash of Color' Features 91 Works By Local Artists


There are 91 works by 67 local artists; all of the works celebrate the theme of color.
The show is on display at the art center through April 26.
Whether it is Carole Raymond’s oil painting “Tuscany,” which focuses on the reddish hues unique to that region of Italy, or the still life “Energized” by East Falmouth artist Patty Calkins-Martin, the works cover a wide variety of subject matter.
Well-known artist Jane Lincoln of East Falmouth, who specializes in color theory, presents an intriguing acrylic “Commanding Cadmium,” a brainteaser of a painting, that seems to reflect on how colors react side by side. ....

Cataumet Art Historian To Give Zoom Talk On Spirituality


Cataumet resident Elaine A. King is bringing her expertise as an art historian to the topic of “Spirituality in Contemporary Art,” in a virtual Art Talk on Tuesday, April 20, at 6:30 PM. The program is sponsored by the Falmouth Art Center and will take place on Zoom.
In explaining her topic, Ms. King wrote, “The term ‘spiritual’ refers to a yearning to seek something superior than the self, the desire to search for the source of life and the nature of death, and the acknowledgement of elusive forces at work in the universe beyond materialism.”
Ms. King clarified that the talk is not about religion. “Art that touches on spiritual essences is not automatically linked with any specific religion or dogma.” ....

New Shows Are Up At Art Center


Weavings, mixed-media works and acrylic/mixed-media paintings by a Wampanoag Tribe member are among the more than 80 works by local artists in the Falmouth Art Center’s new show, “Textures.” The show is on display in the Hermann Gallery through March 29.
Also this month, the art center’s Monday Morning Painters group, a group of artists who paint en plein air, are displaying their work.
The “Textures” show has a wide variety of mediums on display. Wampanoag Tribe member Natasha Frye of East Falmouth is showing two paintings that are inspired by the customs of her people, one showing a female tribe member in colorful regalia and the other showing an eagle whose back is painted with tribal items, including wampum shells and leather. ....
