Franchise consolidation 'not slow'

THE Federation of Cebu Transport Cooperatives (FCTC) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) have denied allegations by transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) Cebu that the franchise consolidation process under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) has been slow or that they are to blame for this.

Dismay, joy after PUV consolidation moved

A CEBU-BASED transport cooperative has expressed dissatisfaction with the renewed extension of the deadline for the consolidation of public utility vehicles (PUVs) into cooperatives or corporations, saying it only prolongs the competition between the consolidated and modern PUVs and the unconsolidated and traditional public utility jeepneys (TPUJ) for ridership of the commuting public.

LTFRB to 'recalibrate' program modernizing PU vehicles

LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III announced plans to 'recalibrate' the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) in response to concerns raised by affected drivers. The move comes after jeepney drivers expressed grievances during a House committee hearing, citing loss of ownership and legal issues after joining cooperatives under the PUVMP. The deadline for consolidation was Dec. 31, 2023, with approximately 38,000 PUVs yet to be consolidated. The decision to review the program aims to address these issues and prevent their recurrence. Stay updated on the latest developments in the PUVMP recalibration process.

Transport operators welcome higher equity subsidy for vehicle purchase, but score govt over

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) has approved an additional equity subsidy for consolidated public utility vehicle (PUV) operators operating modern jeepneys. But while Cebu operators welcomed the subsidy, they said congestion on the streets will continue to make meeting their daily expenses difficult.
