This is the story of two Baptist churches—one Black and one white. It’s the story of a friendship that started with a funeral and continued for 36 years.
In 1985, a white family at First Baptist Church on Governors Drive asked a Black pastor at First Missionary Baptist on Blue Springs Road to join their pastor and conduct a funeral for one of their members. He said yes. What happened after that was the linking of two prominent churches, two prominent pastors, and the beginning of a partnership.
