Tamil Nadu polls 2021: Will DMK fix the missing puzzle in Chennai this time?

Express News Service
CHENNAI: The message is clear. DMK wants to stand and win in almost all the constituencies where it can triumph alone, and regain the bastions lost to the AIADMK over the years, especially in Chennai.
DMK is contesting in 15 out of the 16 constituencies in Chennai this time and will take AIADMK head-on in 10 seats.
Even though the capital city has sent late DMK leader M Karunanidhi to the assembly from various constituencies - Chepauk, Anna Nagar, Saidapet, and Harbour - the party was not able to get a hold of all the constituencies.
While 13 constituencies in the city show a strong anti-incumbency in voting patterns for every five years, DMK has not been able to win in three constituencies for at least 20 years - Royapuram, RK Nagar, and Mylapore. In all these three constituencies, DMK last won in 1996 and have ever since remained an AIADMK stronghold.

At DMK's birthplace in Royapuram, electoral battle hinges on AIADMK minister's popularity- The New Indian Express

Express News Service
CHENNAI: A tough fight is expected at the Royapuram Assembly constituency, which is the birthplace of the DMK, but has been the AIADMK's stronghold for decades now.
The poll battle for this constituency gains significance as Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar has been nominated as the AIADMK's candidate for the seventh consecutive time.
Born in the fishing community there and also a lawyer, Jayakumar, a five-time local MLA, who first won the constituency in 1991, has only lost once in 1996. Following that, he has been the MLA for 20 years straight since 2001. Much of the battle will revolve around Jayakumar's personal popularity in this North Chennai locality. He is also known for ensuring people's basic civic needs are immediately
