An off-duty pilot charged with trying to disable the engines of an Alaska Airlines jet in flight told police he was suffering a nervous breakdown, had taken psychedelic mushrooms two days earlier and had not slept for 40 hours, court documents showed on Tuesday.
Alaska Airlines had said in a statement that Flight 2059 "reported a credible security threat" after Emerson "attempted to disrupt the operation of the engines".
The flight was on its way from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco, California, with 80 passengers aboard.
