Covid-19 cases in Kent begin to return to pre-lockdown 2 levels but infection rates remain high in some neighbourhoods | Updated: 15:18, 09 February 2021 Weekly coronavirus cases have almost returned to pre-lockdown 2 levels - though some neighbourhoods are seeing higher infection rates than others in the county. The overall Kent and Medway infection rate stands at 171.5 with 3,191 new cases and is a 35.9% drop week-on-week. However, weekly deaths have not yet returned to pre-lockdown 2 numbers. On November 5 figures for that week showed 24 people had died after contracting Covid-19, compared to the latest figures from almost a week ago on February 3, which showed there had been 143 deaths. ....
Workers Revolutionary Party ACTIVISTS threw fake blood at the gates of Napier Barracks last Thursday – in protest against the conditions in which hundreds of asylum seekers are being forced to live. An anonymous group of human rights activists has dressed in white boiler suits and masks and erected posters addressed to Home Secretary Priti Patel outside what was once a military camp in Folkestone, Kent. The fake blood has been thrown, they say, ‘to send a clear message to Priti Patel and to the Home Office’. The boards read: ‘Protect human rights. Close Napier now. Priti Patel, there will be blood on your hands. #SolidaritywithNapier.’ ....

There were about 400 men held at Napier barracks near Folkestone, Kent, and roughly a quarter of the population, who had tested negative for the coronavirus, would spend 10 days in hotels inside and outside the district, Folkestone and Hythe district council (FHDC) said. The move comes after a surge in positive Covid-19 tests were returned to at least 120 men in the camp. The Home Office refused to confirm total numbers of positive tests but data on the government’s official coronavirus dashboard shows a 124% rise in cases in the ward in which the barracks is located, Folkestone Morehall and Sandgate, in the week to 20 January, with 182 cases recorded. ....
