For Abby, 45, from Bedford, the sound of a “stridor”, the whistling sound that comes with the barking cough of a child with croup, is one she dreads hearing. “Our seven-year-old son Sebastian often had croup as a baby. When you’re a mum with a newborn, it’s frightening to hear this horrible sound coming out of your child, and they are barking like a seal as they struggle to breathe.”
