Navy reinstates bachelor's degree program to diversify its pool of officer candidates

The Navy, as part of a move since summer 2020 to diversify its ranks, has reinstated its Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program, partly as a means of attracting officer candidates from minority communities.

The Navy is out with the first of a series of uniform policy changes following a monthslong study the service did to identify and end unintentionally discriminatory regulations.
Sailors will no longer be subject to leaders' interpretation about what grooming standards are in "good taste," "eccentric" or "complement the skin tone." Those are three of the eight phrases that will be deleted from the service's grooming standards.

What Passes for Leadership in the US Navy These Days

(Jo Jung-ho/Yonhap via AP, File)
Never mind that the ChiCom foreign minister and the PLA-N have been saber-rattling over Taiwan lately and crowing over the commissioning of their second 12,000-ton Type 055 guided missile destroyer. Don’t worry about the Russians’ new super-sized submarine, Belgorod, armed with their latest version of nuclear-tipped torpedoes. No need to be concerned about military readiness and combat effectiveness of the US Navy. The shortage of combat systems team training and other basic training time in the Navy? Fuhgeddaboudit. We gotta stop the music, stand down, and purge all “white nationalists” (a/k/a Trump supporters) from the ranks of the US Navy! Because of the “armed insurrection” on January 6, that’s why! Except that the FBI has finally and reluctantly confirmed that not one single firearm was confiscated during the Capitol “riot,” debunking once and for all the Democrat-media complex hoax about the “armed insurrection” requiring a purge of all Trump supporters throughout America (which is what their political goal truly is!).

General George Washington wouldn't join today's Army

General George Washington wouldn’t join today’s Army
By

General George Washington needed every good man to fight the British and win the Revolutionary War. He drew the line at homosexuals, discharging them for bad conduct and telling them never to return. He would be absolutely horrified at “trans rights” for men in uniform wearing dresses. But that is today’s military, a laughing stock incapable of defending the nation and making us vulnerable to foreign attack.
Let that fact sink in – General George Washington, the father of our country, opposed gays in the military and in fact had them kicked out of the Armed Forces when he needed as many soldiers as possible to protect the new nation. Lieutenant Frederick Gotthold Enslin was kicked out “for attempting to commit sodomy” and Washington himself referred to the conduct as abhorrent.

Navy task force report on diversity and inclusion

'To do nothing is unacceptable' | Task Force report says Navy needs to do more to become diverse, inclusive
Navy Task Force One was created to address concerns brought to the forefront by the death of George Floyd.

WASHINGTON — During his six months of work on Task Force One Navy, Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Admiral John Nowell Jr. had an eye-opening revelation.
“I thought as a white male admiral in the U.S. Navy, that we had made more progress with equality in our nation and in our Navy,” Nowell said. “And I learned, somewhat to my chagrin, that I had overestimated where we were.”

Navy announces sweeping effort to address bias in its ranks

Racial and gender biases and systemic inequality have a deleterious effect on military readiness, and the U.S. Navy is adopting dozens of recommendations to address it, the service announced Wednesday.
The Navy released a comprehensive review of these issues by a task force launched amid last summer’s racial justice protests.
The task force’s 56 recommendations span all aspects of the Navy’s sprawling organization, from recruiting and promotion disparities to the names of ships that honor Confederates and White supremacists. It also recommends adding a fourth “core value” to the service’s current ethos of “honor, courage, commitment” — respect.
