A burglar found standing in the bedroom of a Fayetteville home as a woman slept early Saturday fired off a shot before running away, police said.
The home invasion was reported at 5:18 a.m. after an Ellington Street resident who was awake in the front room of his home heard a noise in the sunroom, according to the Fayetteville Police Department. When the resident entered his bedroom where his wife was sleeping, he found an intruder there and yelled. Startled, the burglar discharged a firearm before falling back into the sunroom through which he entered, and escaping the home. No injuries were reported.
A vehicle jumped the curb at Eutaw Shopping Center on Bragg Boulevard on Friday afternoon and smashed through the window of a vacant shop there, a witness said.
Mike Starling, an employee at Hayes Hobby House directly next door, said he was in the front of his shop talking with customers when he saw the white Kia SUV pull into a parking space then suddenly lurch forward.
“It just jumped the curb and went between two support posts and through the window,” Starling said.
Starling said the elderly female driver appeared unhurt and that a maintenance worker at the shopping center said the wreck didn’t appear to cause structural damage to the building.
One person was arrested and the getaway vehicle seized in an armed robbery of a Fort Bragg Road gas station last month, according to a news release Wednesday from the Fayetteville Police Department.
Samuel Jamall Gibbons, 29, of Fayetteville, is charged with two counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property.
Police allege Gibbons was the driver of a black sedan captured on surveillance camera carrying away a man who robbed the Exxon, at 1208 Fort Bragg Road, about 7:20 a.m. Feb. 7.
Sgt. Jeremy Strickland said the vehicle was recovered late Tuesday.
