According to the Chinese side, the actions of the United States ship posed a "threat to the security" of the region. However, the US 7th Fleet denied Beijing's accusations and said they were defending "freedom of navigation." Similar incidents regularly occur between the Chinese and United States navies. According to experts, Washington deliberately sends warships to areas that China considers its territorial waters. The US Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier and the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 5 (CSG 5), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) arrived in Busan, Republic of Korea (ROK) for a scheduled port visit on 23 September.
