Our health care system needs an overhaul

We have just celebrated Martin Luther King s birthday. I think that he was among the greatest of all Americans.  In 1966, he spoke about injustice in health care and called it the most shocking and inhuman of all inequalities. There is much evidence that the care of the poor is inferior to the care of the wealthy and that the care of people of color is inferior to the care of whites. Holiday wish: Someone to fix the world

I recently became reacquainted with the word polycrisis. The Cascade Institute has listed a number of crises that need fixing: climate heating, biodiversity loss, pandemics, widening economic inequalities, financial system instability, ideologic extremism, pernicious social impacts of digitalization, cyber-attacks, mounting social and political unrest, large-scale forced migrations, and an escalating danger of nuclear war. There may be even more.  In the past decade, these risks appear to have been amplified and are accelerating. One crisis may be linked to several others, and the whole may become bigger the sum of its parts.  I am hopeful and thankful that there might ....

Fortunately, the Democrats and President Joe Biden have passed and signed the Inflation Reduction Act which earmarks $369 billion for energy initiatives to combat climate change. This gives some hope that you will neither drown nor burn. We have found more hope right here in Bennington. Last January, our Climate Advocates of Bennington group helped start a student club at MAUHS called the Climate Change Initiative.
