A bipartisan group of Colorado lawmakers are making a last-ditch effort to lower residential property tax assessment rates and help Coloradans ward off larger tax hikes this year.

The bill would temporarily lower property tax rates and allow some homeowners to delay part of their property tax payments — but it's also designed to partially cancel out voters' chance to cut property taxes by a larger amount this November.

The 2021 report compiled by the conservative American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) ranked Colorado 20th in economic outlook because of the state’s sales and property tax burdens and its debt service as a portion of state revenue. On the other side, Colorado ranks second in economic performance because of its strong cumulative gross domestic product (GDP) growth, increased population, and non-farm employment growth.
