Brian James 1943-January 10, 2020 A high-quality winger for South Sydney who represented Australia at the 1968 World Cup before retiring at the age of 26. The son of former Cootamundra Maher Cup prop Jack "Swifty" James, he came to rugby league via rugby union after attending Newington College and playing a season of first grade with the St George rugby club. Ipswich track passes wet weather test with flying colours

Brett Kitching AFTER the rain last week, the Ipswich track was not even in the heavy range this morning. There was however a further 10 millimetres of rain midmorning prior to the racing commencement and this rain pushed the track rating back to the heavy range. There was an upgrade after race 4 back to a soft 7 giving further clear evidence of the newly free-draining Ipswich surface of 2020. Anthony Breeze ALTHOUGH 2020 has been a difficult year for all sports around the world, sport maniacs like me should be grateful that we got to see some sport locally, nationally and internationally. With this being my last column for the year, I have decided to hand out my awards. Team of the year: This was a hard one with several sides putting their hands up for this honour. The Goodna Eagles swept all before them in winning the Volunteers Cup rugby league competition. The Melbourne Storm won the NRL title after relocating to the Sunshine Coast for a large chuck of the season.
